私は、日本で5月5日に祝われる「こどもの日」について書かれた文章を読んでいて、この作品の着想を得ました。私は、子どもに割り当てられることが多い色の鯉のぼりを手に持つ女性を描きました。そこには、自身の子どもに愛情を注ぐことだけにとどまらず、周囲の人々に愛を分け与え、世界に対して母性的な姿勢を示す──そんな形で表れる母性への憧れを表現したかったのです。
